A Bit About Me

My name is Joe Myers and I am a New York State licensed and nationally certified massage therapist, mindfulness practitioner, and musician who believes in the connective, communicative, and creative properties of touch and sound. Above all else, my approach to massage therapy is about curating a space for stillness and embodied awareness that may sometimes result in naturally restorative outcomes.

Before I began my journey at the Finger Lakes School of Massage in Ithaca, NY, I spent years balancing life as a musical performer and restaurant worker and the truth is—I couldn’t keep up. That lifestyle along with its physical and emotional tolls led me to seek a path that was more sustainable, gentle, and calm yet still aligned with my values of communication, connection, and creativity. Massage therapy became that path, providing me with a way to support others while nurturing my own artistic and mindfulness-based practices like meditation, yoga, and most importantly—music.

With Frequency Therapeutic Massage + Bodywork, I specialize in working with other musicians. Many of my close relationships are with musicians and I myself have spent more than half my life playing guitar in bands on and off the stage. The work that I do in my studio blends intentional touch and sound to promote somatosensory awareness, deep listening, and meditative relaxation.

After nearly a decade of working as a provider in spas, massage parlors, and chiropractic offices while simultaneously staying involved in the music industry, it has taken me that long to finally begin integrating the work that I do as a massage practitioner and musician together in a way that feels meaningful to me and my clients. In addition to working with local musicians, I have picked up gigs at regional music festivals and have gotten to work with big name artists like Orville Peck, Khruangbin, and Mt. Joy.

Whether it’s with my expertise as a bodyworker, my sensibilities as a musician, or my mindful presence and attention, my goal is to offer likeminded creative and caring types a space to slow down, listen inward, and reconnect with themselves on a deeper level.

What Makes Frequency Different

Unlike traditional spas, salons, massage studios, or chiropractic or home offices my spaces have always been private studios. This means I only see one person at a time for 60 or 90 minutes (I call these sessions Shortwave and Longwave Sessions respectively). I don’t have confusing spa menus with 10 different massages to choose from. Who can tell the difference anyways?

Some might say I offer massage therapy that helps to slow down in today’s extremely fast-paced world by offering a relaxing space to reconnect mind, body, and spirit. If you’re simply looking to release knots—I can help you find ways to do that at home.

Since developing a step-by-step process to get started with new clients, I no longer take same day appointments. I know how it feels to want to have a massage in the spur of the moment and would be happy to direct you to others that can help.

I’ve learned from my clients and personal experience that massage therapy works best when it’s consistent. That’s why I am now promoting the SoundBody Subscription—a simple way to make bodywork part of your life, not just a once-in-a-while splurge.
